“Hi, I’m Han. I’m a Western-educated (Germany & USA) AI engineer, an overseas Chinese, and a foreign passport holder just like you.

Traveling in China as a foreigner can be incredibly rewarding, but navigating the digital systems—especially the rail network—can be overwhelming. Because I travel through China using a foreign passport myself, I encounter the exact same friction points and ticketing hurdles that you do.

I built China Rail Planner to bridge this gap. By combining my engineering background with firsthand, real-world experience, I analyze complex transit data to bring you the most accurate, stress-free, and honest rail guides possible. No corporate fluff—just real advice from someone who actually uses the system.”

Why this site exists

China’s high-speed rail system is extraordinary. But the English-language information available to foreign travelers is often outdated, incomplete, or written by people who haven’t actually navigated the system with a foreign passport and a foreign phone. This site exists to fix that gap.

How content is produced

Every guide starts as a first-hand account — a real experience, a real problem solved, or a real mistake made and corrected. Content is structured and edited for clarity, then published with a verified date. When something changes (and in China, things change often), the guide is updated and the date is revised prominently.

What this site does not do

This site does not publish AI-generated content passed off as first-hand experience. It does not accept sponsored posts or paid placements. Every product recommendation is something personally used and paid for. Every booking platform recommendation reflects actual testing with a foreign passport and foreign payment methods.

The AI agent

The chat agent on this site is a highly functional AI powered by an LLM, an Amap skill, and our published travel guides to answer questions. It is a retrieval tool, not a content generator. When it cannot find an answer in existing guides, it says so honestly rather than generating a plausible-sounding response.
